FAQs & Resources
How old do you need to be to start voice lessons?
I ACCEPT STUDENTS STARTING in middle school, so 11 or 12 years old. Some teachers take younger students, but that is the age when I generally accept students into my studio. Adults of all ages are welcome.
What are some activities for younger singers or kids interested in musical theatre?
Children’s Theatre of Madison (CTM)
Monroe Street Arts Center (MSAC)
Do your students perform in recitals?
YES. I PRODUCE TWO STUDIO RECITALS per year. They are performed at EAGLE school in Fitchburg. Students are encouraged but not required to perform in recitals.
Do I need a classical teacher and a contemporary teacher?
THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE. Many of the techniques cross over, but some are very different. The repertoire you are hoping to sing is the most important thing to think about. I specialize in musical theatre repertoire, and I cross over into pop/rock/R&B/alternative. I can also teach classical techniques and repertoire, but it is not my specialty.
The most important thing is to be transparent with any and all teachers with whom you are working. Having “too many cooks in the kitchen” can be challenging, or even detrimental, so it is important to talk to your current voice teacher before taking a lesson with someone else.
Can you help me prepare for an audition?
YES. I FREQUENTLY HELP my students prepare for auditions, and I am also available for individual audition coaching.
Do you prepare students for college auditions?
YES. MANY OF MY STUDENTS have auditioned for musical theatre, theatre, vocal performance, and music education programs. If any additional assistance is needed beyond what I can provide, I am happy to provide resources to students auditioning for college programs. Here is one that has been very helpful for many of my students.
